September 2026 Newsletter
Welcome to September!

September is here, the kids are back at school, and if you’ve got children, that usually means schedules, routines and a little bit of normality start to return!
Speaking of the kids… now is actually a great time to give any devices they’ve been using over the last few months a little TLC. From cleaning and servicing to checking security, updates and storage, it’s worth making sure everything is running properly and safely before the school year gets into full swing. Who knows what they’ve been up to over the summer!
And if you missed it, Club WOW officially launched in August! We’ve already had a fantastic response, and there are some great benefits to being a member. See below to find out more.
As always, thanks for supporting your local tech team — and welcome to the September edition of the WOW IT WORKS newsletter!
Tech Tip of the Month: Give Your Devices a Fresh Start!

September is the perfect time for a little digital housekeeping. Before the school year gets too busy, take a few minutes to check the devices your family uses regularly.
Clear out old apps and files you no longer need
Install pending updates for Windows, phones and apps
Check passwords and security settings
Make sure important photos and schoolwork are backed up
Check that antivirus and security protection is up to date
A few minutes now could save a whole lot of frustration later especially when that important piece of homework mysteriously disappears!
And if your device is running slowly, acting strangely or simply needs some TLC, that's where WOW IT WORKS can help.
Scam Alert: “Your Bank” Is Calling!
Received a text saying a new payment has been set up on your bank account? Stop!
A current scam starts with a convincing-looking text claiming that a large payment has been made or set up on your account. You may be told to call a number in the message, or reply to confirm whether the payment was yours.
If you say you don't recognise it, the scammers may then call you pretending to be your bank's security team. They can sound extremely convincing and may try to persuade you to move your money to a “safe account” or hand over your card or security details.

Remember:
Your bank will never ask you to move your money to a “safe account”.
If you receive a suspicious message or call, don't use the number provided. Contact your bank using the number on the back of your card or through its official app.
And remember: it's OK to hang up! A genuine bank won't mind you calling back through an official number.
Suspicious text? Forward it to 7726 for free. If you've lost money or been hacked, report it to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
Not sure if something you've received is genuine? Bring it into the shop and we'll take a look with you.

Tech Fact of the Month
Did you know your phone probably knows more about you than you realise?
Your smartphone can store information about your location, the places you visit, the Wi-Fi networks you've connected to, the apps you use and even how often you use them.
That's not necessarily a bad thing — much of it is there to make your phone and apps work better. But it's worth checking your privacy and location permissions every now and again.
Quick tip: Go into your phone's Settings → Privacy/Permissions and see which apps have access to your location, camera, microphone and contacts.
You might be surprised by what you find!
