From Wheels to Wings: Why I’m Trading My Lower Point of View for 400 Feet in the Air
If you’ve ever met me in person, you already know a couple of things right off the bat. First, I am a massive tech head. Whether that be data recovery, a broken screen, or requires a bit of digital problem-solving, I’m all over it. Second, you’ll notice that I tend to look at the world from a slightly lower angle than most!
Being a wheelchair and crutches user due to brittle bones means my perspective has always been quite literally, grounded. I’ve spent a lifetime looking up at landscapes, up at buildings, and- lets be honest, the places I cant reach.
Don't get me wrong, I’ve done alright for myself down here! I’m a blessed man. I run a successful business as an IT consultant, I have an amazing wife who keeps me on my toes, two incredible kids, a wonderful group of friends, and a church community that is second to none. I count my blessings every single day. But if I’m being completely honest with you? I’ve always had a massive dream that felt just a little bit out of reach.
I wanted to fly.
For someone with my physical setup, traditional aviation isn't exactly the easiest hobby to break into. But we live in an absolutely incredible digital age. As someone who spends his days troubleshooting networks and consulting on tech solutions from a desk, I’ve always known how powerful technology can be at leveling the playing field.
And then, it finally clicked. I didn't need a cockpit to get into the clouds. I just needed four rotors, a high-def camera, and a remote control.
The moment I took my drone on its first proper flight, everything changed. I went from wheels to wings in a matter of seconds. For the first time in my life, I wasn't looking up at the world. I was looking down at it, seeing sweeping horizons, hidden patterns in the landscape, and a type of beauty that you can only truly appreciate when you’re high above the tree line. It gave me a sense of freedom I didn't even know I was missing. It’s a total "new life" vibe for me, and honestly, the excitement is hard to contain.
It’s even changed things at home in ways I didn't expect. For years, when my wife went out for a dog walk, I’d often have to sit that one out depending on where she was going. Rough terrain, muddy paths, and wheelchairs don’t exactly mix well. But now? I can join her on a dog walk in a way I never could before. While she’s on the ground navigating the paths, I’m right there with her, capturing the whole journey. I'm pretty sure the dog thinks I've turned into a very loud, plastic bird, but hey - it works!
Serving God, My Family, and Now Great Views
That phrase has quickly become the absolute anchor for this new journey: Serving God, my family, and now great views.
My faith is the foundation of who I am, and my family is my absolute world. This drone channel and weekly blog aren't just about showing off fancy gadgets or making cool videos. They are about sharing the sheer wonder of creation with people who might not ever get the chance to see it from this angle. Whether you're stuck at a desk like me, unable to get out and about, or just appreciate a stunning sunset, I want to bring those views straight to your screen.
I’ve realized that being a wheelchair user actually gives me a unique edge in the drone world. This isn't just a standard enthusiast flying around for a bit of fun on the weekend. This is deeply personal. Every video I edit, every slow, dreamy beach sunrise I capture, and every fast-paced town flyover comes from a place of deep gratitude.
I don't take a single perspective for granted, and I hope that shines through in the footage. I love playing with different styles too; one minute I’m capturing a calm, cinematic, misty morning over a coast, and the next I’m doing high-energy, fast-paced action shots that make your heart race a little bit.
